The 137 Auditions of Avrahaam Yaakob | എവ്രഹാം യാക്കോബിന്റെ 137 ഓഡീഷനുകൾ
2021 · Malayalam (English Subs)
Does an actor act? Or do they become?
Synopsis
What makes an almost 60-year-old Jew from Kochi answer cinema casting calls and attend auditions? Avrahaam Yaakob is one of the last remaining Indian Jews from the ancient Jew Town of Fort Kochi. Success has eluded him, but his pursuit is tireless. Over 137 auditions, he gradually discovers the joy of becoming another character — another human. It was never the fruits of cinema. Cinema itself was the fruit.
Director’s Note
I have always been fascinated by actors. When they perform a role, do they act the character, or do they become the character? How does that process impact their life? The film journeys with Avrahaam Yaakob — a wealthy Jew from the Jewish Quarter of Mattancherry — as he keeps attempting cinema auditions despite his advancing years. The film makes a sincere attempt to experience his agony as well as joy as he pursues his dream of becoming a perfect actor.
